FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS
AGOURA SHELTER
In working with the Agoura Animal Shelter the enrichment we provide for dogs is what greatly increases their adoptability. We’ve built shaded play yards where all dogs get their time out from the kennels, in summer each yard has a portable pool. By adding to the fence height, dogs that climb or jump are now able to romp safely in larger yards. When shelter life overwhelms a dog, there is a “Real Room” which simulates a home environment. To ward off boredom dogs are provided toys, stuffed kongs, and most importantly daily interaction with the volunteers. And, if a dog is in need of a special groom they are taken to the groomer, which dramatically increases their adoptability.
The dogs used to have to play without any shade.
Now they have protection from the sun. Two large yards with higher fencing and sally ports for added safety. For the over achievers, a 6 foot yard is now 9 feet high.
Shade screens in Special Care to keep cool.

Mama's and their newborns are provided whelping boxes.
|
The Real Room provides a respite from the kennels.
|
Relaxing on the couch with a toy away from the stress of the kennels.
|
Refreshing dips in the pools on those hot days.
|
Give a dog a Kong, it’s just not a toy. Kongs help with the boredom being kenneled and provide the much needed enrichment in a stressful shelter environment. The Kong Team stuffs them with chicken, sweet potato and peas, and then freeze.

COYOTE ROLLERS
At the Agoura Animal Shelter we were able to secure one six foot play yard with Coyote Rollers. This keeps the athletic pups safe and secure. The coyote rollers are a great solution for the individual homeowner needs as well, be it keeping coyotes out of your yard and or keeping your dog in the yard.
